K G's Story
My first appointment with Dr. Wysocki was motivated by increased weakness in my dominant hand and wrist. After Dr. Wysocki did a full review of my condition, he shared my options from least intrusive to surgery. When wearing a brace had little effect, we tried cortisone injections in two different spots. This helped for a short time, but it was not going to give me lasting function. The only remaining pathway to independence was surgery. I was worried that I was too old for a surgery that has a long recovery process. Dr. Wysocki assured me that the surgery has been very effective in patients older than I. He then walked me through the entire process from specifics of the surgery through each step of the recovery process. He included pain points, optimal OT schedules ,and the expected average length of healing. This was a lot for me to consider. But what seemed like a long recovery period felt much shorter when put in the context of quality of the rest of my life with or without a useable dominant hand & arm for the rest of my life.It has been less than 4 months post-surgery, and I have full function of my dominant hand and have regained my independence. Every step of the process was helpful and kind. Staff followed up quickly when I had a question, OT therapists balanced firmness and kindness, and I was stunned when a nurse told me just after I rolled out of surgery that Dr. Wysocki would appreciate it if I could wait a few minutes so he could tell me how successful the surgery was. I am so grateful for the skills and humanity of Dr. Waysocki & team.
